Prenatal Massage

What is Prenatal Massage?

A technique involving light to medium bodywork designed to improve circulation, take some strain off your muscles and joints, and generally re-energize and relax you.

What It Does

Numerous studies show that massage can reduce stress hormones in your body and relax and loosen your muscles. It can also increase blood flow, which is so important when you're pregnant, and keep your lymphatic system working at peak efficiency, flushing out toxins from your body. Meanwhile, massage reconnects your mind with your body, a connection that's comforting for you and your unborn child.

During pregnancy, regular prenatal massages assist you to relax, however,  may also relieve insomnia, joint pain, neck and back pain, leg cramping, and sciatica. Additionally, it can reduce swelling in your hands and feet (as long as that swelling isn't a result of preeclampsia), relieve carpal tunnel pain, and alleviate headaches and sinus congestion — all common pregnancy problems. Massage may also lift depression without the use of medication, according to some scientific studies.

What You Need to Know About Massage During Pregnancy

Massage is a generally benign treatment. Still, our OBGYN physicians and massage therapist are cautious about giving therapeutic massages during the critical first trimester. In addition, there are pregnancy complications that can make massage somewhat risky. It is advisable to verify with the doctor before receiving a prenatal massage if you have diabetes, have morning sickness or are vomiting regularly, have been diagnosed with preeclampsia or high blood pressure, have a fever or a contagious virus, or have abdominal pain or bleeding.

What other types of Massage does Wow Aesthetics offer?

Massage is a general term for pressing, rubbing and manipulating your skin, muscles, tendons and ligaments. Massage may range from light relaxing gliding-type strokes to deep pressure. There are many different types of massage, including these common types:

Swedish Massage

This gentle form of relaxation massage technique utilizes long strokes, kneading, deep circular movements and vibration along with tapping which relaxes while increasing one’s energy.

Sports Therapy Massage

Similar to Swedish massage, this technique is geared toward sport activities to help prevent and/or treat injuries.

Deep Tissue Massage

This massage technique uses slower, more-forceful strokes to target the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, commonly to help with muscle damage from injuries.

Trigger Point Massage

This massage focuses on areas of tight muscle fibers that can form in your muscles after injuries or overuse.

Benefits of massage

Massage is generally considered part of complementary and alternative medicine. It's increasingly being offered along with standard treatment for a wide range of medical conditions and situations.

Studies of the benefits of massage demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension.

While more research is needed to confirm the benefits of massage, some studies have found massage may also be helpful for:

·Anxiety

·Digestive disorders

·Fibromyalgia

·Headaches

·Insomnia related to stress

·Myofascial pain syndrome

·Soft tissue strains or injuries
